― Grim

This version of the character is outdated. The current version can be found here.

Grim is a retake/reimagining of 2011X/All Father, created by a Deviantart user known as DisasterWiggler3846. Rather than tormenting human souls, it attempts to “save” them by bringing them into its domain.

ACT 1: A “Savior” is born[]

In the beginning, there was only darkness. Only a single beast with a single eye. For millennia, it has consumed countless realities in its pursuit for a purpose.

Then it found Earth. For every good deed, a dozen sins overshadowed it. The death of youth, the corruption of innocence, racism and segregation, the damn politics and agendas. It was disgusted by this. But fortunately, a certain blue blur would catch the deity’s eye.

The arrival of the Genesis. And with it, Sonic the Hedgehog. It was simple. It was colorful. It was pure. The Deity became just as obsessed with him just as any other person would.

And thus, The Rift was formed. A pocket dimension located at the heart of the Void itself. It wasn’t at all like the game it was based on, but the Deity didn’t care. There was no death, no politics, no responsibility. It was perfect.

But the Rift was empty. There was no one to share this blessed paradise with. And then it got an idea. The humans. It could bring them here. Only the pure ones, of course.

Then came the hard part; choosing its first liberation. Who would be granted access to its wonderland? The Deity ended up settling for a a young boy around 11-12 years old named Rico Watts. His parents were at the brink of divorce. They always fought, even in front of him. No child should go through that.

The Deity came to Rico through his copy of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, slowly revealing itself over time. Slowly building his trust. And once that trust peaked, it struck. Rico’s soul was torn straight from his body and into the screen. Into the Void…

When Rico woke up, he wasn’t in his own body. It looked like Tails, and yet it felt wrong in every way. The world around him was cold and dark. Dead grass crinkled beneath his feet. The wind rang ominously through his ears, like a constant chorus of whispers.

And then, there was it.

It stood beside him, it’s form a twisted mockery of the blue blur himself. With a freakishly wide smile and small dots for eyes, it looked like a monster. It looked like death itself. Rico was scared. He felt weak. Confused. Hurt. But it didn’t register his distress. To it, he was happy.

He was safe.

He was home.

ACT 2: Siblings[]

As both Sega and the Sonic franchise expanded, so did The Rift. The Deity was always experimenting and toying with its domain to mold it into something better than before.

As for Rico, he was alone. He rarely saw the deity. It was constantly at work behind the scenes, leaving the souls within to fend for themselves. They weren’t like him. Some were like rabid dogs. Others were consumed by madness. The one inhabiting the Amy vessel, Hannah Greer, scared Rico the most. She was like a ticking time bomb. One minute, she was cold and quiet as a rock. The next, she was a raging hot fire who lashed out at everything around her.

Some time after Rico’s “death” back on earth, his parents went through with the divorce. His mother ended up having another kid, to which she named Violet. Of course, her mother wasn’t very good; often providing the minimum amount of care. Violet obliviously did everything she was told, always hoping for validation that would never come. The deity knew this couldn’t go on. By the time Sonic Advance 2 released, she was about 5-6 years old. That was when Grim acted. It confronted her through the TV one night; speaking to her slowly and gently, as to not frighten the young tot. It told her it could take her to her brother. Of course, Violet was hesitant; not wanting to leave her mom. But the Deity knew just how to push her. Eventually, the torn child gave in.

When Rico and Violet inevitably came across one another, it was as if time had stopped. The connection was felt, despite having never met. But they quickly grew accustomed to one another, Violet first. She had many regrets in the time between her “liberation” and finally meeting her brother. She had seen terribly things within the Rift. Things that have broken her as a person. Rico, for the first time, felt sympathy for someone in this damn place. She was just a little girl who was taken advantage of.

He would keep her safe. He wouldn’t let the Deity get its hands on her again.

ACT 3: The Dark Ages[]

Even through the Sega slump of the mid-2000s, the Rift and its inhabitants thrived. The Deity, although disgruntled by the franchise’s current state, saw this as a chance to “live and learn”(see what I did there?) from the experience. Do better than your idol.

Around this time, the Deity began to experiment with the concept of creation. It was trying to make its own living organisms. There were many “botched” attempts, which were cast out into the Void for fate. These outcasts would plant the seeds for the Void to thrive with new life. But that’s a story for another day.

After months of work, the byproduct was X06; a more modern approach of itself. Satisfied, the Deity placed X06 in a new zone it called “Silent Cityscape”, its take on “Crisis City”. It had many valuable resources and supplies for the souls, but the deity didn’t want to just hand them over. It wanted to make them work for it. It wanted them feel the satisfaction of earning the prize themselves.

The “Dark Ages” saw the liberation of Harley Keller, your typical Sonic nerd who was barely paying his bills by the skin of his teeth. He was gullible, making it easy for the Deity to lure him in. He ended up residing the Silver vessel. He was clumsy, but not stupid. He had vast knowledge of the franchise up until his “liberation”. He just had to figure out how to utilize it.

ACT 4: Enough is enough[]

Krista Bradford was no stranger to fear. She’s felt it many times since her “liberation” in 2001. But she pushed on, grew stronger. She’s no longer the naive, cowardly girl she once was. She’s changed; for better or worse.

Her plan? Rally up as many people who still have functioning braincells to fight against the deity. There was that “Wubbzy” kid, the soul in the Ray vessel. Detective Warner, the soul in the Vector vessel. Harley also joined, though mainly as a source of comedic relief. There was that farmer girl in the Bunnie vessel, but Krista doubted she wanted any business in a resistance. Same goes for the kid in the Charmy vessel, though he agreed to help from time to time. For a flower fee, of course. And the Watts siblings were out of the question regardless of the reason. They have long since given up hope.

Nonetheless, Krista had done what she set out to do. Now they could work together, not alone. Unfortunately, there was just one thing standing between them and freedom; the Deity. Not much went on that it didn’t know about, for its gaze was omnipresent. If there was something that it didn’t like, it would quickly put a stop to it, one way or another.

Fortunately, finding a workaround wasn’t hard. They chose the tunnels; a series of jumpoints that connect all the Zones in the Rift. For reasons unknown, the Deity’s gaze could not reach here. Meaning the souls could plan and plot all they wanted without fear of punishment. The Hideout was born. And with it, the rebellion…

ACT 5: Passage to the present[]

Fast forward to 2018. Not much new has changed in the Rift. That was, until, came the IDW comics. The comics greatly intrigued the Deity. At first, nothing was worth noting. It couldn’t possibly live up to the legacy of the Archie ones, surely. But soon, the plot thickened and grew bolder. Before it knew it, there was a whole cast of original characters. Which meant for the Deity, it had the slots to invite a modern audience to its paradise.

Stacy Long and Ada Blair were good friends in life. Ada was quiet and self-reserved, while Stacy was bubbly and outgoing. The Deity saw potential in these two. It knew exactly what vessels they would inhabit. It came to them during a sleepover. If only they knew that their mortal bodies were to go to sleep forever.

Ada spent days wandering the Rift in search of Stacy. But when she found her, there was only a ravenous beast. The disturbing experience was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Ada rarely left the Hideout. She was silent, always lingering in the shadows. She couldn’t bring herself to open up again. She feared that every little thing she did would be snuffed out just as quickly.

Joey Woods had been running from CPS his whole life. Every foster home they put him in, ended in cruelty and neglect. Now that he was an adult, they couldn’t chase him anymore, right? And yet, he couldn’t quite shake away the aching desire. To belong somewhere. Needless to say, the Deity didn’t exactly help. It promised a home, but Joey found none. Little did he know, he would soon be guiding the one who would change the Rift for better or worse.

ACT 6: The Prophecy[]

The year is 2025. The Rift stood the testament of time for almost 34 years. Hope of escape is starting to wither and die. But all that’s about to change.

Since the “Dark Ages”, there has been rumor of a prophecy. That some day, a tormented soul that still shines of pristine shall strike down the Deity and shatter the Rift. A lot of souls saw it as bogus. That’s when she arrived.

Amanda Henderson, a young woman fresh out of college. She’s grown up on Sonic, using it as an escape from her somewhat toxic childhood. Just like all the others, her soul was claimed by the Deity. And yet, something felt different. What made her stand out? Was it her skittish, but kind-hearted nature? How time and time again she cheats “death”, even without realizing it?

No one knows what it is, but one things for certain; the end is drawing near. Even the Deity itself sensed something about this girl. Perhaps it’s time in this reality was coming to a close.

After all, nothing lasts forever.

Appearance[]

When Grim’s vessel was initially created, it was more resemblant to Sonic. However, time has taken its toll. Its current state is a corpse-like Sonic with a wide grin, darker fur, gray shoes, etc. It’s eyes are fake, the real ones are usually hidden. In addition, it has tuffs of fur on the sides of its face similar to Lord X.

Grim’s “true” form is an incomprehensible sentient mass of VOID matter. However, it has a distorted silhouette of its vessel, known as the ENDGAME GRIEVER.

Personality[]

Grim is described as deluded and narcissistic. It thinks very highly of itself. It’s also a perfectionist; if it sees something that doesn’t meet its standards, it will continue to improve until it is satisfied.

It has a twisted sense of “justice”, and is often labeled as a hypocrite. Grim despises mindless violence and bloodlust, yet it isn’t afraid to commit it when things don’t go its way. It doesn’t like when souls go outside of the game’s bounds, whether it be intentional or accidental.

Grim’s greatest weakness is its pride. It sees itself as untouchable, and that delusion has only grown with the passage of time. It believes itself to be a savior. It believes it is helping people.

The Rift[]

Otherwise known as the heart of the Void. The Rift is a haven for some, but for most, it’s hell. No one comes out once they go in. The Deity makes sure of that.

The Rift is broken up into different locations called “Zones”, not unlike the ones present in Sonic games. These “Zones” are connected via artificial tunnels.

Pale Hills[]

Pale Hills acts as the “hub” for the Rift. It is where every soul starts when they first arrive. Pale Hills gets its name from its dead-looking, yet very much alive foliage.

Tropical Nightfall[]

Tropical Nightfall is a rainforest-esc Zone. The trees block out any light from the sky, with only the exotic plantlife illuminating the jungle floor.

Silent Cityscape[]

Silent Cityscape is a post-apocalyptic Zone, and is also one of the largest. There is only one creature residing here, known as X06.

Corrosion Carnival[]

Corrosion Carnival is an amusement park-esc Zone. It is populated by Dr Lennard’s machines to keep souls away. Underneath the Zone, is his base of operations.

Shrieker Swamps[]

Shrieker Swamps is a wetland/bayou type Zone. It gets its name from the trees, which all appear to have deformed faces. They’re constantly moaning and crying in agony, though don’t seem to be conscious. Some souls theorize that they’re made from previous corpses.

Crystal Caverns[]

Despite its beauty, Crystal Caverns is a dangerous Zone. Something from the past lurks down here. Something once broken, but now restored.

Wretched Wasteland[]

A desert-esc Zone. Also known as “The Cold Desert”, due to the lack of sun. The sand is an ash grey, with patches of red sprinkled about. Massive rock formations loom overhead. There is no heat, only miserable wind.

The “Liberated”[]

Amanda Henderson[]

Amanda resides in the Trip vessel. She is the newest soul to arrive in The Rift. Some souls speak of her being the “chosen one”. The one who will strike down the Deity. Amanda, naturally, thinks this is ridiculous. Her? Kill this…thing? She’s just a girl, a rather pathetic one at that.

The helmet Trip wears in the game has a rather unique quirk. When donned, it grants Amanda invisibility. Think like an invisibility cloak. Needless to say, she wears it a lot.

Rico Watts[]

Rico resides in the Tails vessel. He was the first. He has watched The Rift grow and expand to accommodate the franchise it mocks. He’s accepted his fate of purgatory, and chooses to spend it with his sister. He doesn’t bother with the rebellion. He knows it’s not gonna work out.

Krista Bradford[]

Krista resides in the Shadow vessel. When she first arrived, she was a cowardly fool. Over time, she toughened up. Now she leads a rebellion against the Rift. One way or another, they’ll find a way out.

Krista doesn’t fear the Deity. It’s just a delusional old man who thinks it’s playing savior. Savior her ass. Even as her body is split asunder and reformed, she doesn’t fear the Deity. The pain merely fuels her desires for escape.

Warner Gilbert[]

Warner resides in the Vector vessel. He was a detective investigating the disappearances tied to Sega. He ended up learning too much, and so the Deity had to cut the cord.

Harley Keller[]

Harley resides in the Silver vessel. He is your typical Sonic nerd who knows just about everything up until 06’s release. He’s also a big goofball. He finds way to “die” without even trying. His personal favorite is from his early days in The Rift. He was trying out Silver’s psychic abilities, and accidentally dropped a car on himself.

Hannah Greer[]

Hannah resides in the Amy vessel. She isn’t “corrupt”, simply succumbed to insanity. Talking to her is like playing Russian roulette. You never know when she’ll go off the deep end.

Hannah’s weapon of choice is a homemade scythe. She made it in the midst of her madness, sometime before she snapped.

“Wubbzy”[]

“Wubzzy” resides in the Ray vessel. Wubzzy isn’t his real name. He suffered from amnesia when his soul was transferred into The Rift, so he came up with “Wubzzy” as a replacement.

Joey Woods[]

Joey resides in the Kitsunami vessel. He’s more of an ally than a team player when it comes to the resistance, often keeping to himself. The reason for this is his unstable emotions. Pushing him over the edge will send him into a frenzied, almost feral-like state.

Joey ends up sharing a close bond with Amanda. He is the one who guides her during her journey through the Rift.

Violet Watts[]

Violet resides in the Cream vessel. Wherever her brother goes, she’s never far behind. She may be weak. She may be scared. But she has him now. He’s the only thing she has left. She doesn’t want to lose him. She can’t….

Angel Vazquez[]

Angel resides in the Charmy vessel. Angel is an odd case. When he was transferred, he somehow gained the Deity’s ability of near omnipresence. Bribe him with flowers and he’ll tell you whatever you need to know. Just a ‘wittle fee.

Dr Lennard Banks[]

Dr Lennard resides in the Eggman vessel. Despite his ghastly appearance, he isn’t “corrupt” and he is very much conscious. He spends his days studying The Rift, wishing to harness its power to its fullest extent through the means of machinery. He even has his own Metal Sonic.

Lennard plans to send his machines out into the Void to gather more data. He has no intention of leaving himself. The Deity is well aware of this, but has struck a deal with Lennard to keep him in his place. It provides bits of itself for him to use and study.

Lennard has a fascination with circuses, which is why he chose Corrosion Carnival zone as his base of operations. Most of his machines are circus-based, with his personal being the Giggle Guys; a line of animatronic clowns.

Eva Watkins[]

Eva resides in the Sticks vessel. Eva was a street kid growing up. She never trusted anyone or anything, ESPECIALLY the government. Instead, she found solace in the wild. No laws. No rules. Just free-will and fresh air. And Tropical Nightfall Zone was perfect for Eva, despite the constant looming danger. She rather be here than out there.

Isabelle Moon[]

Isabelle resides in the Lanolin vessel. Though, to say she’s anything like Lanolin, excluding personality, would be a stretch. Isabelle likes to refer to herself as a “mechangineer”; as she’s an expert in mechanics and engineering. She’s also dabbled in a bit of science, but not a whole lot. When she’s not out digging for scraps, she can be found maintaining the machinery in the rebel base.

Minnie Trix[]

Minnie resides in the Belle vessel. Not quite human, but neither machine. She spends her days digging for scraps. Anything to hold together her rotten form of metal and plastic. She’s too scared to focus on anything else. Why would she, when her own body’s on the verge of falling apart? She can’t trust the others. What if they hurt her like it did?

Ella Paton[]

Ella resides in the Cosmo vessel. She resides in Shrieker Swamps; in a place dubbed simply as “The Garden”. In life, she had a way with plant-life, one that people ridiculed her for. Ella despises those who harm nature, and she isn’t hesitant to harm them back.

Ada Blair[]

Ada resides in the Whisper vessel. Not much can be said about her. She’s quiet, shy, and soft spoken. Doesn’t stand out very much. It is believed she was a victim of sexual assault back on earth, but she never talks about it.

Wally Schmidt[]

Wally resides in the Knuckles vessel. Before transferring to The Rift, he was a war veteran. Now, he guards the Master Emerald, much like the character. Although, Wally is much more hostile in his tactics. He is referred to as “The Predator”.

Jill Frazier[]

Jill resides in the Bunnie vessel. Very few souls within The Rift accept the Deity’s “liberation”. Jill is one of those few. She spends her days on the farm. Almost feels like home. Almost.

Brianna Case[]

Brianna resides in the Fiona vessel. She’s a graffiti artist, and she gladly takes that talent with her into The Rift. The Deity doesn’t appreciate the slander.

Nicholas Deanmont[]

Nicholas resides in the Scrouge vessel. You could say he went from riches to rags. At least his GF made it in with him.

“Corrupt” Souls[]

Due to a “glitch” that occurs when transferring the soul into the game, they sometimes end up as mindless monsters.

Stacy Long[]

Stacy resides in the Tangle vessel. She is referred to as the “Twister”, as she can stretch and contort her entire body at will.

Stuart and Steve[]

Stuart and Steve reside in the Rough and Tumble vessels. Due to bad connection during transfer, they ended up fused as one instead of two separate characters, earning them the nickname “The Conjoined”. Although it’s possible for them to separate, it’s painful for them.

Wade Hopkins[]

Wade resides in the Mighty vessel. Despite being a “corrupt” soul, Wade is a gentle giant. Just don’t bother him and he won’t bother you.

Deanna Duran[]

Deanna resides in the Rouge vessel. Her wings are too tattered in order to fly. She feeds by latching onto victims, usually by the neck, and sucking out all their vital liquids; blood included. Souls have coined her as “The Vampire”.

Mrs Francis[]

Mrs Francis resides in the Vanilla vessel. She is a strange beast who cares for the dead as if they still lived. She stitches them up with webbing and strings, and fills their hollow bodies with cotton and stuffing.

Gaston Hayes[]

Gaston resides in the Big vessel. He is the hive for a colony of frog-like creatures, earning him the nickname “The Host”. The relationship is not parasitic.

???[]

This soul, referred to as “The Figure”, resides in the Infinite vessel. No one knows who they once were or what their name is. It possess a supernatural aura that distorts and hazes the air around it. Some souls speculate it’s actually a creation of Lennard.

Once Amanda showed up, its pursuit was relentless. It was slow and deliberate in its chase, as if it knew it could kill her whenever. It was toying with her. Taunting her.

Other Entities/NPC[]

Various NPCs and entities exist in The Rift alongside the liberated. Most are creations of the Deity, though a few are outsiders.

“Six”

“Six” was created shortly after the release of Sonic 06. Although X exists within this timeline, he is a separate being from Six. Six only exists as an extension for Silent Cityscape Zone. Silent Cityscape takes heavy inspiration from Crisis City Zone. There’s no fire though, only eerie silence.

Six resembles a crude, stitched together Sonic costume. Its face can split open, though it’s unknown why it can do this.

When the facade falls, usually after sustaining enough damage or getting overly enraged, is where the design takes a sudden shift. Six’s “true” form is covered in spines, is much larger and brutish, and has small eyes like Grim.

Six “speaks” via voice box. It has pre-recorded Sonic messages such as “Way past cool!” and “High score!”. It’s also capable of chopping up the audio to create new, more ominous sentences. Such as the infamous “You’re not very good at this, are you?”. As Six degrades, the voice box will degrade as well.

Khorne(formerly Xenophanes)[]

The events of Vs Sonic.EXE are canon to the timeline. After “Final Escape”, Xeno went into an overload and, quite literally, had a meltdown. His battered remains drifted through The Void, until passing into The Rift. The Deity took the husk and would make something new out of it. It named this new creature “Khorne”. He inhabits Crystal Caverns Zone.

Khorne is more levelheaded than Xeno, but can still become enraged easily. Interestingly enough, despite being a separate entity, he shares some of Xeno’s memories.

Sorona[]

Sorona isn’t like the Deity’s other creations; she was made to be family. A shoulder for it to lean on. Something more than just a pawn in a game.

Despite being young, Sorona is VERY smart. She may not be able to speak, but she can write in eligible English. She also proves to be more powerful than her father. She doesn’t follow the laws of physics.

Grim is shown to be very protective over Sorona, and will become extremely violent should anything happen to her.

Sorona started out as a retake on Kurumi, before becoming her own thing.

Trivia[]

  • Time passes differently within the Rift. Half a year on earth is the equivalent of a full year within the Rift.
  • Many EXES/Oddities stem from Grim’s experimentation with life. The “failed” attempts that are cast out into the Void grow and adapt. From there, things spiraled out of control. Grim is aware of the things it’s set in motion, but it pays no mind to any of it. •With that in mind, this makes Grim the technical “Father” of the Void.
  • Any outside entities that enter The Rift are usually exterminated by Grim. Unless it finds worth in them. In which case it will let them live, at the price of eternal captivity.
  • Grim does not see itself as a god
  • Grim’s original full name was “Grimlord”, but this was later changed due to sounding “too edgy”, as Wiggler states.
  • The Chaos Emeralds exist and are possible to obtain. However, they are very hard to find. No one has managed thus far.
  • Certain brainrot terms are banned within The Rift. These include, but are not limited to: Gyatt, gooner, sigma, skibbi, hauk tuah, etc. Grim sees them as “impure”.
  • Grim has omnipresent control over The Rift, but chooses to limit itself as to not cause disturbance.
  • If Grim were to have an actual game, it would take a graphic quality similar to Sonic Advance 1. However, gore and intestines would have realistic details. This would be more apparent in the “corrupt” souls. Grim itself would cause camera distortion in its presence.
  • No one can actually die in The Rift. They just respawn after a certain amount of time has passed.
  • If Grim were to be killed, the Rift’s barrier would be shattered. Both the souls and Grim’s creations would be free to leave. Sorona would assume dominance over the Rift once she reaches maturity.
