This version of Rankles is a retake on the original Rankles that appears in the SEGA magazine UK issue 11#. The original version of him was just a joke, but has now been incorporated into the Lordite lore as one of their children. The first appearance of him as a fankid of Lord X and Rewrite took place on the Official Discord server for the Lordite ship and has been accepted by the shippers to be their child despite being a green otter.
Appearance[]
Rankles is a green otter. His head is slightly dented inwards, and he has long flat quills similar to that of Knuckles. He also wears boxing gloves that are kept on his hands by small belts. He has a long tail and spiky feet which are his most defining feature. His skin is green as well as his quills and eyes.
Personality wise, he takes a lot from his fathers, often enjoying watching the player run around. However he does like it when he gets to see Sonic die on a level and might appear to laugh at the player when this happens if he is watching. He can empathize and be nice as well but it is often overridden if he thinks it would be more entertaining to not help. He is just a little whimsical guy running around for the most part.
The Story[]
Rankles is born of Lord X and Rewrite-while he is fully embedded in his own world (He does not appear in hedgehog form). The scrambling of data and genetic make up of a void alien and the virus-like demon causes his strange appearance. Rewrite is connected to all things in his world and even though he often appears as a version of Sonic, he can really be anything that he wants he can shapeshift allowing for Rankles to be born a green otter.
When Rewrite discovers the clump of DNA that is baby Rankles, he actually throws him off of his world and out into the open internet. Rewrite makes the mistake of thinking that Rankles is nothing more than trash and corrupted code. He can tell that his code and Lord X’s DNA are mixed but fails to see that they actually combined and created a new creature all together. Rewrite took one look at the strange snot stain popping out of his world and decided it was gross and had to go. However, due to the “corruption” caused by Lord X on Rankles’s code, Rewrite could not just simply reabsorbed him back into his world and is why he disposes of him instead.
Rankles then flies through space and the internet and ends up coming into the care of Lady Majin. He hits her at a high enough speed that it actually causes a large dent in his head creating a ‘M’ shaped skull. At this point Rankles is more developed and actually looks like a creature and Lady Majin decides to take care of the child sensing his strong heritage.
When Rankles is grown he goes to look for his missing fathers, not sure who they are. Lady Majin also does not know since the combination of energies has made it hard to determ
ine where he came from. Rankles has a unique power to be able to glitch through worlds and fall through into different games without having to connect through the internet or wires. He can just trip into another EXE’s world. He uses this power to venture out on his quest.
When he is in a world where a player is actively playing, pickles will spawn in the game, it’s his favorite food. If the player runs into pickles they will know that he is visiting the game. If the player looks long enough, they might be able to find Rankles. However, he has a nasty habit of appearing right as the timer is up on a given level. He will then laugh at the player as the level ends, often finding Sonic dying to be hilarious. He may also multiply, a trick he had learned from Lady Majin which is made possible by his unstable but unique genetic makeup.

- Most of the EXEs in Xskotos avoid him since they consider him ugly due to his strange appearance and the beauty standard being Sonic the Hedgehog.
