| ― The Grim |
The Grim started out as a retake/reimagining of 2011X/All Father, before becoming its own thing. It was made by a Deviantart user known as DisasterWiggler3846.
This is the current interpretation of the character. For the old version, go here.
The Savior[]
The Grim is a lovecraftian entity who has become deluded with the beliefs of being a savior. It thinks it is helping people.
It thinks very highly of itself, to the point of being narcissistic. It’s also shown to be a perfectionist, as when it sees something that doesn’t meet its standards, it will continue to improve until it is satisfied.
The Grim has a twisted sense of “justice”, and is often labeled as a hypocrite. It despises mindless violence and bloodlust, yet it isn’t afraid to commit it when things don’t go its way. It doesn’t like when souls go outside of the game’s bounds, whether it be intentional or accidental.
The Grim’s greatest weakness is its pride. It sees itself as untouchable, and that delusion has only grown with the passage of time. Even when threatened, it holds back.
Appearance[]
The Grim’s original state was an incomprehensible sentient mass of void matter. When it’s vessel was initially created, it was more resemblant to Sonic. However, time has taken its toll. Most of the original facade rotted away. The Grim has a wide grin, darker fur, gray shoes, etc. Its teeth are humanoid, with the addition of sharp fangs. It’s visible eyes are fake. Excess void matter leaks from the “pupils”. The Grim’s real eyes are usually hidden. In addition, it has tuffs of fur on the sides of its face similar to Lord X.
The Grim’s has a second, more monstrous form known simply as ENDGAME. In this form, it is a towering beast engulfed in darkness. Only its burning red eyes remain. It only takes this form in desperate times. It has only had to use this form once.
When visiting Earth in person, the Grim has a crude human disguise. In this form, it wears a black suit with a red tie, white gloves, and top hat. Its face is what gives the Grim away, looking more like a corpse than a living human. It has grotesque teeth, sunken eyes with purple bags, and scraggly strands of hair.
Biography[]
In the beginning, there was only voidness. In that void, resided the Grim. It floated aimlessly from reality to reality, consuming all in its path. Eventually, it grew tired of this cycle. It lounged for something new. Something exciting.
When it came to earth, it saw nothing worthy at first. Just a pitiful planet filled with miserable creatures. But then, something caught its eye. A certain hedgehog by the name of “Sonic”.
The Grim became obsessed. So much so, that it begun crafting a world of its own. A twisted reflection of the game modified to satisfy its tastes. This new pocket dimension became known as the Rift. But the Grim was alone. It had no one to share its beloved paradise with. At least, not yet.
Its eternal eye swept over earth, screen to screen. And then, it found him. 12 year old Rico Watts, living with parents on the brink of divorce. That wouldn’t do. He deserved so much more. The Grim confronted Rico in the dead of night, promising him a better life. A life free of rules. Pressured, Rico reluctantly accepted its grace, reaching out to take the devil’s hand. His soul was torn straight from his body, and all went black.
When he awoke, he was no longer in his own skin. Instead, he took the role of Tails, Sonic’s best friend and sidekick. The wind rang in his ears. The dead grass crunched as he rose to his feet. He was terrified. This wasn’t what he wanted. This wasn’t what he was promised. But the Grim didn’t care. In its eyes, he was happy. And this was just the beginning. The beginning of something wonderful…
The cycle repeated a million times over. Wallace Smith; a dying war veteran who never got compensation. Lennard Banks; a retired showman. Hannah Greer; a hopeless romantic in college. All lured into the Rift through deluded promises of a better world.
Though, this is where the Grim began to experience….technical difficulties.
When the Grim found a soul to inhabit the Big vessel, Gaston Hayes, something went wrong. He had become something else entirely. Violent. Mindless. And this wasn’t the only instance this anomaly occurred. Many others would befall to the same fate. A term quickly spread for these unfortunate souls; the “poisoned” ones. Of course, the Grim never did truly register this problem. It came up with the theory of some human souls not handling transfer into the Rift well, and thus becoming “poisoned”. It still believed to have “helped” them, as they seemed to be oblivious of their actions and “at rest”.
Sega entered the “Dark Ages”. Ironically, this is when the Rift began to truly thrive. The Grim had begun to experiment with the concept of life. It had made living organisms before. There were the Dwellers; who it made to be Lennard’s audience. But they were mindless. Ravenous. Cannon fodder. The Grim wanted something more.
After many botched attempts, it was met with progress. An intelligent predator that adapted to its surroundings. It didn’t chase, it hunted. Since this was its sixth attempt, the Grim decided to call the creature simply “6”.
But it wasn’t what it was seeking. It wanted more.
The Grim would continue its experimentation. It created wildlife, monsters, npc residents to populate its empty expanse. With each heart that begun to beat, the Grim grew closer towards its goal. Something real. Something truly theirs. Something human. Finally, the Grim had made something worth lasting. A daughter. A heir to its Eden. It named her Sorona. She was pure. Perfect. But far too curious for her own good. The Grim rarely let her leave her sanctum, in fear of her being corrupted.
Meanwhile, the souls of the Rift were beginning to rebel. Leading this disruption was Krista Bradford; the soul inhabiting the Shadow vessel. The Grim wasn’t surprised, considering it was her boyfriend who was supposed to have been “liberated”; not her. Nonetheless, the deed was done. Once someone has had a taste of paradise, it would be cruel to tear them out of it. So the Grim let her stay. One of many mistakes that would lead to its inevitable demise.

Potential[]
The Grim’s power is limitless, however is hindered by its mentality. It often holds back.
- Shapeshifting(Is limited though)
- Soul extraction
- Teleportation
- Omnipresence
- World Manipulation
The Residents[]
The Rift is thriving with many different faces and foes. The Grim may be its creator, but there’s far worse to fear.
The Watts Siblings
A generation tarnished by the Grim. Rico was its very first “liberation”. He has seen everything, but he can’t hold on much longer.
Violet is the Rift’s youngest resident. As such, she has seen things no child should see. She spends her days with her brother. He’s all she has left…
The Showman
A retired ringmaster who never moved on. He forever spends his days entertaining his adoring audience. It is both his passion and his prison. Like the very machines he builds, he slowly became a machine himself.
The Dwellers
A horde of miserable minds that think alike. They were made by the Grim to occupy the Showman. They wander from stand to stand, attraction to attraction, forever plagued by boredom.
The Man in the Suit (“Six”)
The Grim’s 1st successful attempt at creating an intelligent life form. It hunts with a perverse awareness of its environment. It hides its face under a facade of cloth and fabric, but it’s not afraid to show its true colors.
The Chosen One
She came to the Rift like any other. Yet something stood out. Her determination was far greater than any other resident. But the pull of the chaos emeralds is strong. To slay a monster, one must become a monster themselves…
The Chosen One’s Guide
Joey never had a home. No one to call a family. That was, until he met her. She showed him true kindness, something the Grim failed to show him. He leads her through the Rift; to help pave the way to a better life.
Trivia[]
- The Grim hates modern internet media. In fact, certain slang terms are “banned” in the Rift.
- Escapism is a reoccurring theme. Wiggler stated in a post: “No one was brought to the Rift against their will (Well, almost no one.). They chose to accept the Grim’s ‘salvation’. They wanted to get away from their seemingly miserable lives. Now they seek escape from the Rift. Irony, at its finest.”
- No soul in the Rift can truly die. They respawn after a certain amount of time has passed. Pain is still very much felt though.
- Time passes slower within the Rift. If someone were to enter for 24 hours and then leave, more than half a month would have passed outside.
- If the Grim were to have a game, it would most likely take a style similar to Little Nightmares. It was a major inspiration for the Grim’s domain and its inhabitants. It would take a more cinematic approach, rather than the classic, self-aware formula that most EXE games use. Players would take the role of Amanda from start to finish.
- Although somewhat altered to not cause too much interference, multiple other EXEs/Oddities are set in the same canon as the Grim.
- The Grim’s original name was “Grimlord”. Wiggler has since been changed/retconned a LONG time ago.
- The Grim cares about Sorona VERY much. However, due to its narcissistic nature, it sometimes fails to show that.
- The Chaos Emeralds are untested and highly unstable. In the right hands, they could potentially defeat the Grim.
- The Grim would not get along with most EXEs, due to its beliefs.
