Unused Remnant is a retake by Buffplum on the character Unused that was created by Nominal Dingus. He is a version that is within the Xskotos Universe where he commonly interacts with other EXEs.
Appearance[]
Unused Remnant is a lighter blue hedgehog than normal Sonic. He looks similar to the original Unused except that his eyes are not separated. He has the same shoes as Unused though. He has glowing blank eyes that appear completely white. His ears appear as all black with a white dot. When using his EXE powers, eyes appear on the back of his hands and feet. There are also large eyes that appear on the back of his quills, one for each quill cluster. These eyes can open and close and often stay close and near seamless as well as his hands and feet covered in order to appear almost just like Unused does.
Story[]
The canon remake story that is canon to Xskotos. This excludes all the shipping this character is involved in.
Birth[]
Lord X misses the quiet and decides he wanted to go back to the void. His fascination with humans over the years has grown to boredom -there are always new souls being born after all he can never finish playing with his victims at a rate where he would be able to get all the souls and decides to take a long term vacation. When Lord X returns to the void all his work falls apart. The world in which he inhabits starts to fall apart and crumble into nothingness (It is implied that the guardians are not yet born when Lord X returns to the void, but are born in the void while he is gone.)
There was an unused vessel left behind though. It had been prepared for Lord X so that he would have a new vessel when he was ready. It has a spark of Lord X inside of him as apart of the prep for transferring the entity. The power that isn’t absorbed by Lord X before he leaves hunts for the source of the power and ends up flowing into the vessel. This makes the vessel start to have a personality and power of their own. Although the power is identical to Lord X it is slightly different since the vessel doesn’t contain the actual entity of Lord X and therefore is still a separate entity. He has the same power feel as EXE/Faker, Lord X’s son.
As the world fades away Unused Remnant actually just starts to become a being, staying unconscious and floating through the space between worlds. In this state is where he runs into Primordial Majin in the realm of dreams where through their discussion he is led to the Nothingness, a place where EXEs live and gather outside of their games. He then gains full consiousness and becomes his own person rather than an empty vessel. He continues to have conversations with Primoridal in dreams about identiy.
When Remnant comes to he doesn’t remember anything besides Lord X in his head although he doesn’t have any context on who this is or what any of what he sees means. The only thing that survives in his mind is the innate fear of X. He then clovers up all the eyes on his body after he sees various EXEs around the Nothingness while snooping around, looking as much as Sonic as he can, often sitting in public with his eyes closed and only opening the glowing white blank eyes if necessary in order to hide his identity. This causes irritation of the eyes on his hands and feet and often itches.
Other EXEs are able to sense his power inside and he is attacked several times by people thinking he might be Lord X or Faker. This leads to him figuring out that he does indeed have EXE powers which he uses to defend himself. When he activates his EXE powers all of his eyes open up across his body and glow with the power including his blank eyes. By keeping the eyes closed he can actually keep the power ‘locked away’ making it hard for other EXEs unless they are super close to figure out his energy and connect him to Lord X. Otherwise he just looks like another Sonic disguise.
He lives a fairly normal life undercover in the Nothingness where he can be anyone he wants. While here he is also plagued by nightmares and hallucinations of Lord X. He sees the horrible things that the other has done in the past through the power that lingers inside of him and this thoroughly scares Remnant even more. The more he uses his power the worse he gets, in fact when using them he will often see Lord X’s visage watching him. He even has dreams where he sees what Lord X is doing but then in reflection of blood notices that it’s actually him committing all of these acts.
Remnant uses his power purely for defensive purposes, scared of what it is that is living inside of him, not remembering that he is actually a vessel for X and not that X lives inside of him. He struggles with his nightmares and identity and ends up meeting Primordial Majin once again in the dream world and starts a friendship with the god to help him recognize what is a hallucination or dream and what is real.
Return of X[]
Lord X eventually comes back from the quiet, this time with his nine guardians fully grown from the void. Unused Remnant is able to feel this and fearing that they will come for him he starts to jump into a Sonic game to protect himself.
He hates being controlled and doesn’t let the player take control of him. This might frustrate the player to the point that they switch to a different character. If the player has tried to play him for too long, Remnant will main the player while they are absorbed in the game while playing another character. If they don’t change characters and leave the game off Remnant might kill the player in their sleep, however if they turn off the device they were playing on all the way, Remnant will most likely leave the player alone.
While Lord X is rebuilding his world, Remnant hides out in Sonic online games hiding from him. After a long time Lord X actually tracks down Remnant while he is being hunted down by Supernova Fleetway, trying to break free since the other isn’t very fun to play with and they are too equal in strength for Lord X to get away. He leads Supernova to the power of himself he feels apart from him and then throws Remnant at Supernova before he can even understand who is in the same world as him.
How Lord X feels about Remnant is unknown or what his plans for his vessel that had taken on a life of its own.
Supernova[]

When Lord X throws Unused Remnant at Supernova he leaves while telling the demon that the vessel is “his now”. Supernova takes this very seriously and treats Remnant like a pet in trying to protect and care for him when he remembers to do so and also treats Remnant with affection in a way he does not do with others since this thing is ‘his’. Remnant on the other hand is initially scared out of his mind by Supernova. When he realizes that the other does not mean to harm him however he gets to thinking.
Remnant is able to convince Supernova to act like a body guard and that if he belongs to the demon, then the demon belongs to him as well and should listen to him. He is then able to, for the most part, control Supernova in his small moments of lucidity before he forgets about what he was doing. Remnant uses the demon as Lord X deterrent and goes back to living his normal life knowing that X won’t come near as long as Supernova is around. Supernova does run off and get lost often, but X does leave him alone for the most part.

Eventually Rewrite makes a deal with the two of them: in return for Supernova not attacking Lord X anymore he creates a large red ring out of some of the souls that Supernova has saved up in hell -so that he couldn't break it. This way Remnant could actually keep track of him and even tie a rope around it so that Supernova would not get lost. More often that not Supernova chews through the rope attached and Unused Remnant lets him go free until he is contacted by X or Rewrite to reign him back in.
During one of the times where Supernova was gone, Remnant was sitting in an abandoned world when he came across Expedition. Expedition manages to capture him and curiously tortures and tests Remnant to see how EXEs work.
Expedition causes Remnant to go mostly blind in his main eyes and then tricks him into fully killing players in order to stay alive after various tests, making his EXE powers more powerful. Eventually he is rescued by Supernova who came back for him after a long absence. At first the demon does not recognize this different scent of power on him and tries to eat Remnant until he is reminded by the other of who he is and then rescues him by opening a portal back home.
Supernova tries to help him with his blindness but it doesn’t work, instead Remnant often has to rely on his EXE eyes to see what he is doing or to see in detail, raising the risk of him getting attacked since he is using a lot more power. The demon for the most part keeps them away but he does need to be more vigilant about where the other is.
This also means that X has more control over him and he hears the same commands as the guardians, to grow the cult and to collect more souls which he tries to resist. The stronger he becomes the stronger the pull to the cult is, as so he does his best he can with his bad vision, still hiding out as a random Sonic.
Potential[]
As much as Lord X. He just doesn’t try to accumulate the power since he would be fully under the control of the other if he matched his power. Since Remnant is not a void entity himself but just the power of it, his body does not deteriorate like Lord X’s.
Trivia[]
- When all of his eyes closed he looks just like the original Unused except for his eyes being connected. This is so Buffplum could retcon all of their previous drawings of Unused to technically be him too.
- He was made for a ship that Nominal didn’t want to be associated with (no longer Remnants official lore though)
- Remnant is more like a Lord X clone and so would be Faker’s Uncle if you wanted to get technical.
- Remnant thinks that Rankles is annoying and tries to avoid games where he is.
