Varulv is a creature born from the body of Sonic the Hedgehog and the influence of Dark Gaia's powers, along with the negative energy of the Chaos Emeralds. He transformed into a furious Werehog, thirsting only for the eternal hunt.
Predator[]
The origin of the Varulv is almost identical to that of Sonic the Werehog but with a few differences. Sonic, in his Super form, staged a raid on Eggman's spaceship to sabotage his latest plans. When Sonic nearly reached Eggman in his main deck, he trapped him in an impenetrable glass dome. Eggman planned to extract the power of the Chaos Emeralds from Super Sonic for his own use and transform it into the Negative Power of the Chaos Emeralds to power his Cannon to awaken Dark Gaia.
For unknown reasons, Sonic absorbed all the negative power of the Emeralds and almost completely absorbed Dark Gaia. This caused massive damage to the hedgehog. The immense Negative Power of the Emeralds granted him incredible physical strength, endurance, defense, and intelligence. At the same time, the absorbed power of Dark Gaia gave him more physical changes – he became taller and larger. Furthermore, the power of Dark Gaia imbued him with a furious and brutal demeanor, which, combined with his intelligence, gives him tremendous hunting potential, allowing him to create cunning and complex traps to capture prey.
Despite his brutal nature, his intelligence is incredibly high. In his regular Sonic form, he acts completely like Sonic, because inside, he is the same Sonic, but more brutal, allowing him to easily confuse his prey and lead them into his hunting grounds.
Appearence[]
His Faker form looks identical to regular Sonic the Hedgehog. But his regular form (Varulv/Werehog) have some differences from original Werehog. His fur little darker, sharper teeth, taller and bigger body and bigger legs. Also, his quills became longer.
Potential[]
He possesses high intellect, incredible physical strength, and endurance. His skin is impenetrable. He also possesses certain magical powers. For example, he created his own pocket dimension, which he calls the Hunting Grounds. It appears as an endless jungle through which his "captured" victims, whom he previously killed in the real dimension, roam. In the Hunting Grounds, the victims don't die after being killed by Varulv; they are simply reborn until he hunts again.
If hunting a prey for a long time, he can enter a kind of frenzy accompanied by rage. His pupils turn red, and blood-red capillaries appear in his eyes. This form requires considerable energy, so after the effect wears off, he enters a state of calm. During this period, he is less active.
He has no pupils, meaning he has a very wide field of view. However, when he becomes enraged, his pupils become red. These red pupils help him focus more intensely on a specific target. Also, in his normal mode, white pupils may occasionally appear, for example, if he's tracking a target from afar or concentrating on something.
The Tale[]
The Great Hunt Awaits[]
The day went on as usual: Sonic ran through the Green Hills, smashing more Badniks that Eggman had sent to catch small animals. After he destroyed another Badnik, he noticed something curious inside it, something he had never seen inside a normal Badnik. Intrigued by the find, he took it to Tails to figure out what it could be.
Reaching Tails' lab, he showed him his find: Sonic:
Hey Tails! How are you?
Tails: Hey Sonic, good to see you! Yeah, everything seems fine.
Sonic: Glad to hear it, buddy. But I didn't just come to see you, look what I found inside the badnik!
Tails immediately snatched the find from him: Amazing! Something new. It looks like some kind of data chip.
Sonic: Can you do something with it?
Tails: Sure, give me some time.
Five minutes later...
Tails: I'm happy to report that I was able to hack the security system and find out what's inside the chip... "Wait a minute..." Tails said, sniffing the air. "Sonic, have you been eating chilli dogs?"
Sonic: Yeah. I brought you some too, especially for my friend!
Tails: Thanks, Sonic!
Sonic: So, what's up with the chip?
Tails: It turns out this is some kind of return data. It specifies the point where all Badniks are supposed to return.
Sonic exclaimed enthusiastically: So what are we waiting for? Let's go and give Eggman a good beating!
Tails reassured Sonic: The thing is that the point that this chip points to leads to a rocket launch station into space. After looking into it further, I came to the conclusion that Eggman is up to something again at his space station.
Sonic: But we can get there with your modified Tornado, right?
Tails: I'd be happy to help, but after our recent battle, the Tornado took a lot of damage. I haven't had time to fully repair it yet.
Sonic: Then how do we get there?
Tails: The only option is to use the power of the Chaos Emeralds to transform you into your super form. Then you'll be able to safely fight Eggman in space.
Sonic: Great idea, buddy!
Some time later, Sonic, having collected all the Chaos Emeralds, transformed into Super Sonic and headed into space to teach Eggman a lesson once again. Finding himself in the vastness of space, he easily found Eggman's station. Sonic dashed towards it at full speed. However, Eggman had carefully constructed his station's outer defenses. Almost the entire station was covered with defensive weapons and guard drones. But Sonic, thanks to the power of the Chaos Emeralds, was able to easily navigate through the crowd of obstacles.
Once inside the station, Sonic headed to the control bridge, where Eggman himself was located. Effortlessly reaching the control bridge, he came face to face with Eggman. A dialogue ensued between the two:
Eggman: Sonic the Hedgehog has come to ruin my plans again?
Sonic: I had a lot of fun getting to you. In the future, I'll tell you to trust your bots less with their data chips.
Eggman: Looks like someone was smart enough to figure out my bots? Even if you figured me out, that doesn't mean it's over for me!
Sonic immediately replied: But I'm already here. Surrender, Eggman, or I'll have to destroy your station again.
Eggman angrily replied: Take a chance!
Sonic immediately rushed to Eggman. But Eggman just pressed a button on his control panel, laughing wickedly. Suddenly, a huge glass dome surrounded Sonic and trapped him inside. Sonic tried to break through the dome, but somehow it didn't crack even a little.
Eggman said to Sonic with an evil grin: Don't even try to escape from here, stupid blue hedgehog. I had to work hard to make this dome resistant even to your Super Form.
Sonic: So what are you planning, Eggman? Are you going to tell me how brilliant you are until I die of boredom?
Eggman replies angrily: Jokes aside, hedgehog. I didn't just leave the data chip inside my robot for nothing. I knew you'd notice it sooner or later and rush here. I was just waiting for you to arrive.
Sonic asks with displeasure: So what do you want from me?
Eggman proudly replies: It's very simple. You see, after conducting some experiments, I came to the conclusion that negative energy can be extracted from the Chaos Emeralds, not without harming the host, of course. And you brought me all seven emeralds.
Sonic interrupts Eggman: So what does all this mean?
Eggman, raising his voice, replies: Don't interrupt me, Sonic! Didn't they teach you any manners? By gathering the negative energy from all seven Chaos Emeralds, I can awaken Dark Gaia, sending a beam of negative energy straight to Earth! And then no one will be able to stop me!
Sonic: Wow, that's so cool...
Eggman smirked again: I've had enough of your chatter. Get ready, Sonic the Hedgehog, because the process of extracting negative energy is very, very painful. You'll suffer like never before.
Eggman launched his suction cannon. From the top of the dome, a powerful beam was directed straight at Sonic, draining all his strength. Sonic was overcome by a horrific pain he'd never experienced before. It felt as if his skin was being ripped from him alive, his exposed muscles bathed in burning lava. But he couldn't die or lose consciousness, for the Chaos Emeralds still kept him alive. Sonic thrashed his bare, straight to bones, fists against the impenetrable dome in agony, while Eggman laughed evilly as he watched.
But for some unknown reason, something went wrong. Because Sonic was experiencing excruciating pain and terror while the negative energy from the Chaos Emeralds was being drained, the Dark Gaia force began to awaken prematurely. This caused the cannon to be unable to withstand such a powerful surge of power. It exploded directly above Sonic, producing a massive surge of negative energy and Dark Gaia's power. Eggman managed to activate his defenses in time, so he remained unharmed. But since Sonic was at the epicenter of the explosion, all the potential energy concentrated on the blue hedgehog's lifeless body.
After everything died down, Eggman took a closer look at Sonic's body.
Suddenly, his body completely regenerated all the damage it had sustained. But the changes didn't stop there. His body suddenly began to undergo enormous changes - his fur darkened, his body turned a pale turquoise color. He also became taller and more muscular, his gloves and shoes were torn, leaving bare hands and legs with sharp claws and a lot of gray fur on his wrists. His muzzle elongated slightly, his teeth became razor-sharp. His eyes turned completely dark, like a void. The quills grew longer and sharper.
Thus he was born – Varulv. Spawn of the unrivaled power of Dark Gaia and the negative energy of the Chaos Emeralds.
Eggman's surprise knew no bounds:
"Interesting," Eggman declared. "It seems I miscalculated slightly. I'm surprised that despite the enormous damage to the hedgehog's body, he recovered and even transformed. It seems he was able to absorb all of Dark Gaia's power, along with the negative energy. That wasn't part of my plan. I see I'll have to resort to Plan B."
Suddenly, a loud roar distracted Eggman. It was Sonic, or rather, no longer Sonic. He easily destroyed the dome that had survived that enormous explosion. Eggman immediately dispatched his Guardian Bots, but their weapons were useless. The creature's hide had become tough and impenetrable; it was immune to everything. This news stunned Eggman, and he was forced to flee toward the evacuation pod. He dispatched all his remaining bots to try to slow the monster down, if only for a little while.
The entire station was in chaos—the battered remains of bots, splashes of machine oil, and piles of scrap metal lay everywhere.
Almost reaching the pod, Eggman sent his last defensive unit—Metal Sonic. Metal Sonic immediately engaged the impending threat. Although Metal Sonic was defeated, it bought Eggman some time, and he was able to safely evacuate the station, leaving the monster behind. Fortunately, he had copied Metal Sonic's data so he could restore him on Earth.
Upon reaching Earth, Eggman was horrified: his station was falling to the ground, completely engulfed in flames.
Eggman has only one goal left: to reunite with Team Sonic to confront the new threat he himself created...
Never-ending confrontation[]
Collecting his thoughts, Eggman disassembled his escape pod and assembled a crude vehicle. He didn't have much time, and as much as he wanted to, he needed to somehow establish contact with Tails and Knuckles. Although the pod had a basic set of tools, Eggman had almost no equipment with him, so he headed first to Tails's lab.
While en route, a very loud noise in the sky caught his attention: his station had exploded during its fall, sending debris flying in all directions. Eggman picked up a signal on his tracker—it was the pod containing Mecha Sonic MK2. He noted its location and continued on to Tails's lab.
Upon arriving at his destination, something alarmed Eggman. He entered the lab and was immediately spotted by Tails:
Tails: Eggman? What are you doing here?!
Just as Eggman was about to speak, Sonic suddenly appeared from around the corner.
Sonic: Gotcha, Eggman! Thinking of escaping me and attacking Tails? You're in for it!
Eggman immediately shouted at Tails: Tails, don't trust this impostor! This isn't the Sonic you know!
Sonic immediately interrupted: What are you talking about? It's me – Sonic the Hedgehog, a lover of adventure and chilli dogs.
Tails was confused and couldn't understand what was going on. He turned to Eggman, wanting to know what was going on. But as soon as he turned around, Sonic swung his clawed hand at him. Eggman leaped toward Tails and saved him from the fatal blow. Eggman hit Sonic with a makeshift taser, briefly disorienting him. He and Tails quickly jumped into a makeshift vehicle and ran. Sonic transformed into a monster and ran after them.
Tails panicked and screamed at Eggman: What is this monster?! What happened to Sonic?!
Eggman: If we survive, I'll be sure to explain everything to you. For now, hold my taser and cover us from behind if the Varulv gets close.
"Varulv"? Tails asks.
Eggman: I'll explain later.
Eggman headed toward the capsule containing Mecha Sonic MK2. They had managed to escape Varulv, giving them enough time to launch Mecha Sonic. After launching Mecha Sonic, they all headed to Eggman's underground bunker.
Luckily for them, the bunker was completely undamaged and Varulv hadn't reached it yet. Eggman immediately began studying the information obtained from the copied memory data of Metal Sonic. With this information, he would be able to train Mecha Sonic to at least somehow counter Varulv. Tails began questioning Eggman about what had happened:
Tails: Explain to me what just happened? What happened to Sonic, and what Varulv were you talking about?
Eggman: Varulv is what I named this monster. The thing is, during our last fight with Sonic, I tried to extract the negative energy from the Chaos Emeralds from Sonic's Super Form to awaken Dark Gaia. But I miscalculated, and Dark Gaia awakened prematurely, causing an explosion that killed Sonic. But Sonic's dead body absorbed Dark Gaia and the negative energy, causing him to undergo such transformations. In simple terms, this is Sonic, but he is not. He's driven solely by evil and darkness.
Tails: YOU KILLED SONIC!
Eggman: It wasn't my plan to completely kill Sonic! Besides, I could have not come to you but straight to my bunker, but I still came to you and was able to save you in time.
Tails: Thank you for that. But what do we do now?
Eggman immediately declared, "As soon as I'm done modifying Mecha Sonic, we need to warn everyone not to trust Sonic, i mean, Varulv. He can change his appearance, and I confirmed this with you; he almost got you."
Eggman continued modifying Mecha Sonic while Tails healed the wounds he sustained during the chase.
After some time, Mecha Sonic modification was complete. From now on, this is Mecha Sonic MK3, codenamed "Hunter." Among the innovations: an improved hull made of chromium cobalt and nickel alloy (CrCoNi), improved eye sensors with more extensive functionality (UV sensors, night vision and thermal imager, 35x zoom and high-resolution recording capability), improved AI with the ability to control self-learning and simulate behavior, increased protection from extreme temperatures, improved servos to withstand heavy loads when fighting with Varulv, as well as the replacement of the left hand with a multifunctional module with a plasma weapon. Also included are improved turbo accelerators and increased efficiency of the mini-reactor inside the Mecha. Eggman also added the ability to use the power of the Master Emerald. The body was painted with a special red coating that could allow the use of stealth mode.
This annihilator machine should, if not destroy, then at least withstand enormous resistance from the Varulv. And thanks to Metal Sonic's memory data, he already had basic knowledge of Varulv's capabilities.
Having gathered, Eggman Tails and Mecha Sonic headed to the Master Emerald temple, which Knuckles was supposed to guard.
The journey was very long, because besides the fact that the temple was very far away, Eggman's team moved with great caution, because Varulv could be waiting anywhere. Tails still couldn't believe everything that had happened. He couldn't believe that Sonic had transformed into a bloodthirsty monster and that Tails now had to unite with his arch-enemy, Dr. Eggman.
Fortunately, they finally reached the temple without incident. It was already very dark, the atmosphere so quiet that you could hear your own breathing, and even the movements of Mecha Sonic. This irritated Eggman, so he emphasized that the first thing he needed to do upon returning to the bunker was to work on soundproofing the servos.
Entering the temple, Tails was overcome with horror: Knuckles's mangled body lay in the middle of the temple, and Varul stood before him, tearing his bones apart. Tails wanted to scream in fear, but Eggman covered him just in time. They tried to retreat slowly, but a treacherously lying piece of stone caught Eggman's foot, causing him to trip on it. Although it was a quiet sound, it was enough for Varul to hear them all. He ran sharply toward Eggman and Tails, but Mecha Sonic arrived just in time and lured Varul into attacking him. A fierce battle ensued, allowing Eggman and Tails to escape.
They returned to bunker, and now they had to come up with a new plan...
Father of the Hunt[]
A month had passed since Eggman and Tails' escape from the Temple of the Master Emerald. Mecha Sonic still hadn't returned. They were afraid to leave the bunker without him. There was almost no hope... But suddenly, a thud of metal sounded at the bunker door. It was Mecha Sonic.
Although it wasn't much, Eggman and Tails had a small glimmer of hope.
Mecha Sonic had been badly damaged, but he had managed to return and still retain his built-in data drive. Eggman immediately set about repairing Mecha Sonic. While disassembling it, Tails noticed his chip inside the Mecha's hull. He remembered his lab and the useful items stored there. Tails suggested Eggman go there to get some things that might help repair Mecha Sonic. However, they weren't sure how safe it was outside.
After examining the data drive, they discovered that Mecha Sonic had been holding his own against the Varulv for a long time. He even managed to leave a scar on his chest. However, Mecha had also suffered greatly, fortunately, he had enough energy to return to the bunker. At the end of the recording, before Mecha left the scene of the battle, Varulv was filmed lying on the ground with his eyes closed. However, he was still clearly breathing. Eggman assumed he was most likely still recovering from the fight, so they could safely make their way to Tails's lab.
Having packed their things for the trip, Eggman and Tails left the bunker.
Mecha Sonic had to be left behind in the bunker; it had not yet been repaired.
The journey was long. Although they were confident that Varulv was still recovering and posed no threat, they still proceeded with caution. Closer to moonrise, they finally reached Tails's lab without incident. Once inside, Eggman and Tails began cleaning up the mess left behind after their escape from Varulv. While collecting useful parts, Tails found his tablet in a pile of trash and put it in his bag. With it, he would be able to create new inventions.
As soon as they finished collecting resources, Eggman was about to leave, but Tails stopped him. He remembered the plane – the Tornado. He had managed to repair it before the arrival of Sonic, now transformed into a monster. He offered Eggman to fly away in it, as the Tornado could serve as a good means of transportation, as Warulv would be unable to reach them in the sky. They headed to the Tornado's hangar. Upon entering, Eggman admired the modified Tornado. While he inspected the plane, Tails checked the Tornado's readiness for takeoff. All systems were operational and the fuel tank was full.
Fortunately, Warulv hadn't touched the Tornado.
At that moment, a rumble was heard on the hangar roof. "Rain," Tails and Eggman thought, and continued preparing the plane for takeoff. Just as Tails started the engine, part of the hangar roof suddenly collapsed onto the plane's wing.
Hope quickly turned to disappointment.
As if that weren't enough, Warulv himself fell from the hole in the roof, ready to finally catch his prey. Tails and Eggman quickly jumped from the plane. Tails activated the hangar gate. Eggman stood at the gate itself, waiting for it to open. As soon as the gate opened, Tails was suddenly grabbed by Varulv. Tails desperately begged Eggman to save him, but the latter only glanced back and walked away, saying, "You were nothing but a burden to me; you're no use."
Tails was in utter despair. He only awaited in horror his death at the monster's clutches. But suddenly, Varulv lowered Tails to the ground and assumed his Sonic form. He calmed him down and began talking to him:
Sonic: Don't worry, buddy. It's okay, I won't hurt you. See? It's me – your friend Sonic!
Hearing that warm voice of his best friend, Tails calmed down a bit.
Tails: Sonic? Is that really you? Not some bloodthirsty killer monster?
Sonic: Safe and sound!
Tails: But how? You... You were a terrible killer monster! You killed Knuckles!
Sonic: Wait, buddy, it wasn't me. Eggman framed me for this whole thing! He turned me into a horrible monster, then killed Knuckles and pinned it on me. Of course, he could easily pin the blame on me after turning me into that monster!
Tails: But you were there. You were standing over Knuckles' body when we arrived at the temple!
Sonic: I arrived at the temple right before you did. Knuckles was already dead when I entered. As soon as I spotted you, I ran to Eggman to punish him for the atrocities he'd committed, but you ran away. But hey, since I was able to establish contact with you, we can give him a good beating together! And I even have a surprise for you.
Tails: Wow. What's this surprise?
Sonic transformed back into Varulv and placed his hand on Tails' shoulder. He murmured:
Varulv: While I was recovering, I discovered the ability to share my power. I can share some of my power with you.
Tails replied incredulously: But I'm not sure that's necessary...
Varulv, in a calm and soft voice, reassured Tails: Don't worry, buddy, it won't hurt.
As soon as Varulv finished his sentence, he sank his teeth into Tails' shoulder.
Tails screamed in pain and momentarily lost consciousness. Then, Tails began to transform into a beast similar to Varulv himself – tall, strong, intelligent, and ferocious. After the transformation, Tails came to his senses and stood before Varulv.
Varulv: Greetings, my friend. From now on, you are reborn as Revarul, my werefox friend. Together, we will create a new world where the weak become prey and the strong become hunters.
Revarul: I will serve you with pride, Varulv.
Varulv: Be proud, for among all hunters, you will be the most important – my friend and right-hand man. But first, we must capture our ultimate prey – Eggman. He is my creator, but also my enemy.
Revarul: My tablet, which I found in the lab, will help me with that.
Meanwhile, Eggman, having returned to the bunker, began repairing Sonic's Mech. To his horror, he finally realized what the chip on the Mech's hull was. It was a surveillance chip. And Revarul himself was monitoring it from his newly found tablet.
For Eggman, this meant only one thing: he was now on his own, and he needed to hurry.

- He is very attracted to the smell of blood, which is obvious because he is a type of predator.
- He may have a great intellect, but he doesn't understand electronics or anything like that. But he's a master at creating traps.
- Never, I repeat never, try to fight him hand-to-hand.
- The power of Dark Gaia and the Negative Energy of the Chaos Emeralds are forever trapped within his body. Even so, he can still gain some power boost, as the Master Emerald still exists. However, the Master Emerald cannot be fully absorbed, so Varulv can only absorb it for a short time, after which it detaches from him. This requires tremendous effort and concentration, so Varulv rarely uses it.
- In his less active phase, he sometimes takes on Sonic's appearance and (as strange as it may sound) acts as him. Even though most Mobians know he's not the same Sonic he once was.
- Also, during this phase (in Sonic form), he enjoys spending time playing logical and intellectual games like chess or checkers. However, it's extremely rare for anyone to agree to play with him, and even if they do, Varulv always wins...
- Sometimes his true Sonic self awakens, but his beast nature consumes him almost instantly. He only manages to glimpse for a moment what his brutality has done.
- His beast form has adequate speech. That is, he speaks with ease in his Faker and Varulv forms.
- He treats his victims extremely cruelly.
- For example, he fought with Knuckles until he was exhausted, and after he could barely move, Varulv morally crushed Knuckles because of his lose and then killed him.
- Even though he's not an EXE, he's still aware of their existence.
- For example, he hopes of one day competing in brute force with Kolossos, considering him a worthy opponent.
- He also has more respect for the All-Father, even though he's not his creation.
- He considers Scorched as a brother due to their physical resemblance.
- You might notice that his movements appear instinctive, like those of a beast, but this is not the case. Almost all of his movements are calculated, tactful, and precise, allowing him to hunt with maximum efficiency.
- He doesn't need food, as the Negative Energy of the Emeralds and the energy of Dark Gaia nourish his body. However, he still likes to snack on his victims occasionally; he simply enjoys the taste of raw flesh, and it also serves as a way to "sharpen" his teeth. He often uses their bones in his traps. This truly is called "zero-waste production."
- During his Rage phase, his mind is completely focused on the hunt, and tactical thinking takes a back seat. During this time, he's unstoppable; like a tank without brakes, he'll sooner or later reach his prey.
